Gnosticism and National Socialism

Gnosticism and National Socialism

A Religious-Psychological Study

Harald Strohm examines the ideological traditions to which the National Socialist "Myth of the 20th Century" (Alfred Rosenberg) could connect. His religious-psychological study traces back to the Gnostic currents of antiquity.
In the contempt for earthly life and existential anxiety of salvation religions, he finds dualistic thought patterns that—adopted and popularized by the esotericism of the turn of the century—manifested themselves in concentration and extermination camps, in Lebensborn institutions, and in the "Eastern colonization."

"Overall, the work impresses with its numerous excursions, digressions, and cross-references to various neighboring disciplines, thus tracing the side strands of Gnostic thinking and feeling. In particular, the therapeutic approaches presented by the author deserve attention..."
